Bill Johnson and Kris Valloton speak about their plans to consolidate the activities of their cult at Bethel Church in Redding, California…
I hope you were able to listen very carefully to this discussion. These men are not speaking of true Christianity, nor of the Creator of the universe. Their arrogance and lack of fear of the Lord is palpable. They worship a false god, preach a false gospel and are expanding the influence of their false teachings at an alarming rate. Please pray for those who are caught in the deception of Bethel Church, Jesus Culture and their many new age/occult activities. Please also pray for these men, as they too are lost and in need of salvation. (I make no assessment of the eternal destiny of these men, only their current spiritual state. Their repentance, should the Holy Spirit so move them, will lead them to salvation).
If you want to learn more about the teachings and activities of this cult, please read the following post:
Not Your Usual Anthology…Crosswise Articles on Bill Johnson’s False Teachings
Of you want to know why I refer to this group as a cult, please read the following article from the Apologetics Index:
Introduction
The term ‘cult of Christianity‘ is used of a group, church or organization whose central teachings and/or practices are claimed to be biblical or representative of biblical Christianity, but which are in fact unbiblical and not Christian in nature.
The term can also be applied to groups, organizations or churches whose ‘statement of faith’ or ‘statement of beliefs’ may sound orthodox, but who add aberrant, heterodox, sub-orthodox and/or heretical teachings to such an extend that the essential doctrines of the Christian faith are negatively affected. (Examples: Seventh-day Adventist Church, International Church of Christ).
Read the rest of the article here.
There are many other well-respected definitions of what constitutes a cult, all of which describe Bethel, Bill Johnson (its ‘spiritual father’) and the wider New Apostolic Reformation. No doubt many people thought the first Mormons were just a bit strange, and wouldn’t amount to much. Ironically, people are still saying the same thing about the NAR.
It’s time Christians called Bethel and the NAR for what it is, a cult. We need to reach out to those caught in this particular deception, in love and with the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many churches here in Australia are being poisoned by these men and their false teachings. Would you allow Mormons or Jehovah’s witnesses to come and teach at your church? If your answer is no, then a) you are not a Mormon or Jehovah’s Witness, and b) you should be speaking out against these false prophets as you would against said Mormon/JW’s.
Please, I encourage you to pray about these things and speak to other brothers and sisters in Christ. Do some research. That is why this blog exists. I was given my wake-up call…so I am sharing a year’s worth of research with you to save you some time.

Did you notice when BJ was talking about the ‘explosion’ of popularity of Bethel Music, how he refers to their ‘influence’ increasing. Seriously, does he think we don’t know he means profits? Their talk of expansion and consolidation is rather chilling, I thought. And to laugh and make reference to the now bankrupt (and sold) ‘Crystal Cathedral’ of false teacher Robert Schuller speaks volumes about which god they follow.
The Bethel situation is as sad as the Hillsong one…so many people spending their money (and sometimes their church’s money), traveling from far and wide to get involved in the ‘latest move’ of this false god. I have read so many heartbreaking testimonies about how this is tearing families apart, destroying marriages and shipwrecking faith. And when they are challenged, they smugly refer to it as the cost of following (their) Jesus. ‘Look at the fruit’ they cry. But what they don’t realize is that true believers are looking at the fruit. With the ‘sight’ that the Holy Spirit gives us, we see the fruit and it is rotten to the core. How can it not be, when it is founded on false doctrine and abominable occult practices?
Praise the Lord that He is sovereign, and in His mercy He continues to grant salvation to many who have been deceived in these movements. These cults are a mission field just like the Mormons or any other cult. And like the Mormons, they don’t even know it.

yes & the use of the word SYNERGY — which is totally a new age word.. it means that the sum total of parts equals more when added together… added literally 2+2 =10
the swooning over a baseball bat … which will be in the house of generals .. the fact that BJ admits to spending money on these types of “artefacts” – now of course he is at liberty to spend his personal monies however he chooses.. but still the fact remains that where your treasure is – there your heart will also be…
& the fact they admit to having an excess of $30million to accomplish all this.. this money comes flooding in from all over the world on the back of book – CD & teaching material
500 schools of the supernatural worldwide – that’s only going to increase…
how does all this meet the practical needs of overcoming oppression in real terms – which Jesus – the real Jesus of Nazareth came to smash down in every context
where are the plans reinforced for the ensuring the Gospel is preached & people can access that with a proper response… no not a mention or a hint of a mention – I would have thought with the dire importance of that need it should have been re iterated time & again in every video sound bite clip … no opportunity wasted… & yet this the last thing on their lips…
False Jesus = false Gospel & false Gospel promotes a false Jesus that’s a synergy I want no part of.. People please, please wake up & RUN, RUN, RUN…
These people are into Domination of the church & the world & they will never stop –
sheps right — get out whilst you still can –

No God = no Gospel. Never have I heard anything that resembles the preaching of the whole counsel of God from this church or its pastors. And I have listened to a number of sermons and read some of their books. One of the reasons I post a sermon each week is to provide the stark contrast of the true and glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ and him crucified against the empty, self-centred vanity of false teachings such as Bj and KV.
May our dear Lord bless you for raising your voice above the ‘i-worship-me’ din.

The narrowing path, you are so write when you say: ‘I have read so many heartbreaking testimonies about how this is tearing families apart…’
Sadly, this happens to our family right now…..it started about a year ago…and THANK YOU GOD for showing us the TRUTH!
We get all the blame, all the mud thrown at us…..but we’ll stand up for Truth, no matter what.
And you are so right again: ‘And when they are challenged, they smugly refer to it as the cost of following (their) Jesus. ‘Look at the fruit’ they cry.’
Yes, and their fruit is bad, bad, bad……
How does a Christian falls for this masquarade??
It saddens me a lot.
And if non-christians see& hear them, what on earth are they thinking about those so-called ‘christians’??
They might think we are the nuttiest people in the world!
Oh, God, have mercy on us and help us shine Your light in this darkness…..
God bless you all, dear brothers&sisters in Jesus Christ.

Savedbygrace07, thank you for your encouraging feedback and blessings in Christ’s name. I praise God that he has opened your eyes to His glorious truth, and to the lies of these false teachers. It is a difficult road to follow, but as you have no doubt discovered…always worth it. We have our Saviour, Jesus Christ to guide us home, and his Holy Spirit to give us wisdom and courage along the way!
As for how do we fall for these things? I don’t know a simple answer. I know from my own experience that the Lord allows us stray far off his narrow path, before graciously rescuing us by his saving grace. In the process, we learn hard lessons in trust, faith and obedience in the Lord Jesus. And as you so beautifully demonstrate, through these hardships our Lord Jesus is also refining us and growing our fierce love for Him and for the truth of His Word! May our Lord continue to bless you as you grow in wisdom, faith and perseverance to the very end. Your sister in Christ, Sherryn
