Some common sense and a Biblical perspective on elections and evangelical errors, from the very sensible Pastor Gabe:
Donald Trump is not David, Paul, or Samson
“Donald Trump is not David or Solomon. He is not the Apostle Paul. He’s not Samson. He isn’t Nebuchadnezzar or Cyrus either. He’s Donald Trump. To try and mirror him with any of these biblical characters is nothing but eisegesis — imposing something on the text the reader wants it to say but it doesn’t actually say.
The bias should be obvious. If Trump can be Nebuchadnezzar or Cyrus, why can’t Hillary? And why is Trump only comparable to someone like Kings David or Solomon, Samson or Paul, and not someone like Kings Saul or Ahaz, Balaam or Simon the Magician?”
And in case you are concerned Pator Gabe is taking sides…
“So again, Donald Trump is not David or Solomon, Paul or Samson, Nebuchadnezzar or Cyrus. He’s Donald Trump. He needs to be held accountable for Donald Trump’s sins, told to repent and believe in Christ Jesus the Lord. By the way, the same goes for Hillary Clinton, also a foul-mouthed, baby-killing, racist woman-hater. She needs to repent for her own sins, too; to be wretched and mourn and weep (James 4:9), and believe in Christ as Savior and King.
This has been a deplorable election. But I believe God in His Sovereignty is not done. I pray that in the midst of such immorality He is raising up moral and godly men and women, who stand upon principled and biblical truth, who are not afraid to speak up, call evil evil, and promote what is good and righteous in the eyes of God. It is when the night is darkest that such stars tend to shine out the brightest (Matthew 5:14-16, Philippians 2:14-16).”

We have a loudmouthed cad and a criminal (undocumented). Could either one be compared to a Biblical character? We probably all could. But to declare that either one is a particular one is not our business, and not the core issue, in my opinion. The Christian saying Trump might be a ‘deliverer’ for our nation should also be saying he might be God’s judgment upon a nation he just might have abandoned the dustbin of history. As the Pastor said, God is sovereign and does as he pleases in the affairs of men and nations.
I think there might be a bit of ‘nationalistic’ idolatry afoot among the brethren. May we should be asking ourselves a couple of ‘what ifs’. What if it’s severe judgment and true Christianiry ends up being relegated by law to private conversations among ourselves behind closed doors and speaking about God and his Son could be an ‘ambush’. Just an example that could be true no matter who is elected. I could add to the ‘what if’ list all day.
The mission of sharing the Gospel that Christ died for the sins of men with a lost world will never change. Will we be faithful if the going gets REALLY tough? What about the fact that the gospel that contains the topics os sin, repentance, judgment and the wrath of God is largely missing from much, if not most of today’s evangelical environment?
Anyway, it’s a good article!

Glad it was helpful Dan. Pastor Gabe has a great perspective. If you haven’t checked out his ‘When We Understand The Text’ podcast (or website), I highly recommend it. Especially his Romans series!
May the Lord bless you brother, and thanks for the encouragement.

WWUT has broadcast some really good teaching about the importance of properly interpreting the text of the Bible, especially for our youth.

I am so sick of Christians telling me that if I dint vote for Trump, I’m automatically voting for Hillary. I say neither. I cannot and will not support either of these candidates. If our country weren’t the immoral mess it is, we’d have decent people to select. I don’t answer to anyone but the Lord certainly not to either political party.
This was a great article.

Hi Jo,
I am so glad the article was an encouragement to you. I have to say a hearty amen to your comment. If your conscience won’t allow it, don’t vote for either and may the Lord bless you.

“This has been a deplorable election.”
Deplorable is a good word for it. It is downright embarrassing. We know what we are getting with Hillary, a continued slide towards socialism. Her stand on late term abortions is downright evil.
Then there is trump. If he reacts as he does during debates, we will have war for sure. Of course, Hillary’s foreign policies will probably mirror Mr. Obama’s and the weaknesses of these policies may result in war anyway.
I have to vote as there are many other important issues on the ballot like state representatives and important issues.
Even if we only had a presidential election with only two choices, I would have to vote in spite of the fact that there is no David or Danial types running.
I have, sadly, thought that Hillary would win for a long time now, way before it was down to two candidates. Look at what the American electorate has chosen the past two elections.
There is a slight possibility that Trump may surround himself with those like his V.P. choice. Mike Pence would make a good president I think. I’ve gotten emails from a Norwegian professor who thinks Mr. Pence should have been our choice for president. I agree with her but, again sadly, I don’t think men like Mr. Pence can be our presidential candidate in our current godless condition.
Another good point in the article:
“But I believe God in His Sovereignty is not done.
This should always be included in the prayers of the Church.
